Humanitarian Initiatives

Difficult times generally bring out the best from MFT members and volunteers who go all-out to serve humanity. Last year has seen tremendous suffering, requiring short-term, effective actions as listed below:

Post-Flood relief Initiative – August, 2019

On the 31st July 2019, nearly 50 cm of rain fell on Vadodara within 12 hours. The Ajwa dam overflowed subsequently and as a result of the large water discharge, Vishwamitri River rose above the danger line. The combined impact of extremely heavy downpour and river flowing above danger mark created unprecedented floods in the city.

COVID Relief Initiative – March – April, 2020

Sudden, unexpected lockdown announced on March 24th , to contain Corona virus, resulted in a crisis of survival for a large number of marginal families which included a majority of MI / MFT beneficiaries

Migrant Labour Initiative – May, 2020

With onset of Lockdown and subsequent extensions, millions of migrant workers were suddenly without jobs, food or shelter. By May, millions of them simply wanted to return to their villages and started walking hundreds and thousands of kilometres on foot – in peak summer heat. The crisis was indeed of mammoth proportions and nothing like it was seen in recent memory – not since the partition!
